Objectives

The project will set up a Working Group due to an urgent need for companies, research centers, and the European Union, to develop a consensus on the optimum standard (scope, content and boundaries) for the next generation still image compression algorithm - JPEG 2000 - which will best serve the short, medium and longer term interests of the European economy.

The Working Group will arrange three European seminars in line with the JPEG 2000 standardization process in order to:

The Working Group will be involved in preparatory and support activities in order to increase interaction between European inputs to the global standardization (ISO) of JPEG2000. To achieve this we will be organizing 3 European seminars and participating in the global ISO meetings. There are 3 ISO meetings planned within the project duration, March 1998, July 1998 and November 1998. The European seminars will be arranged prior to the ISO meeting and are scheduled as follows:
 
March 1998 First European JPEG 2000 seminar
June 1998 Second European JPEG 2000 seminar
October 1998 Third European JPEG 2000 seminar
